Chapters in two new books

  2. I represented English in the volume Gender-neutral, Gender-fair, Gender-inclusive, an outgrowth of the Language and Gender: Academic Research and Practical Implementation research network and conference series.

LSA Philly

The Linguistic Society of America is in Philadelphia this weekend, and SEPTA (the linguistic one) is well represented. I’m giving a talk on L2 English users responses to gender inclusive and nonbinary forms, and beginning my term as the chair of LSA’s Committee on LGBTQ+ Issues in Linguistics (COZIL).

New research talk now online

I recently gave a talk for a meeting of the Moral Psychology Research Group, organized by Daryl Cameron, who runs the Penn State Consortium on Moral Decision-Making. It was nice to join my Penn State colleagues as well as meet faculty and students working on a wide array of topics. I shared a summary of recent work on the ethical dimensions of pronouns, which you can watch here:

New Course: Language and Social Justice (Afr/ApLng 230N)

With the support of the Penn State Office of The Vice President for Commonwealth Campuses and the Office for General Education, I’ll be adapting a new course, Language and Social Justice, for our Digital Learning Cooperative in Spring 2024. Thanks to Dr. Busi Makoni (Penn State African Studies & Applied Linguistics) for developing the original syllabus.
